Why we like it

This seed packet organizer comes with 18 smaller boxes inside (and labels), perfect to organize our gardening seeds according to type — and see at a glance which seeds we need more of. This makes it so simple to pick out the seeds we’re ready to plant, and to see which we may be short on. It also simplifies planting because we’re not digging through a shoebox or mason jar for the right seed packet.

In a nutshell, we like this seed packet organizer for storage because we can:

  • See an inventory of our garden seeds at a glance.

  • Plan future gardens easily.

  • Store self-gathered and purchased seeds in the same storage box.

  • Label each box with the type of seed for easy identification.

  • Grab the seeds we need in seconds.

This has reduced so much time searching, spilling seeds, and opening multiple envelopes of the same variety at once (because we didn’t realize we had other packets already — in a different shoe box on a shelf). It also snaps shut so there’s little risk of dropping the seeds or packets across the floor.

Some things to consider

Some seeds we acquire come from friends, neighbors, gardeners online, etc. They come in different sized packets and some in nothing more than a small ziplock bag. We like to be able to see at a glance the seeds we have stored. This is essential for emergency preparedness, and in living a self sustainable lifestyle in general. The labels on the individual boxes is a tremendous help for this! But, if you’re like us, you’ve also got random bags, envelopes, and plastic containers of seeds that may or may not be labeled legibly.

To solve for this, we also purchased seed storage envelopes — and the envelopes we ended up with are beautiful, high quality, and the perfect size for our randomly collected garden seeds. We just make sure they’re labeled clearly and legibly. Once they're ready, we add our own envelopes to the appropriate box in our seed packet organizer.

One last thing. You may want to buy multiple seed packet organizers. We started with one storage box, loved the way we were able to organize and immediately ordered two more. Now we have our seeds sorted by garden seeds, herbs, wild edibles, and trees.

How this impacts our prepping efforts

Knowing which garden seeds we have to work with in an SHTF situation is half the battle. With this seed packet organizer, we’re able to see what we’ve got, plan ahead for planting, and keep our seeds stocked regularly to ensure we’re ready to grow our own food and keep our preparedness efforts going strong.

We can move forward with confidence that:

  • The seeds we use the most are fully stocked.

  • Our garden seeds are stored in a dry and safe way.

  • We don’t waste time searching for seeds when it’s time to plant.

  • We can easily store our own seeds away when we can’t get them from the store.
